Civil 3D Hydrology and Piping

Hydrology and piping components of AutoCAD® Civil 3D® have expanded dramatically with the expansion of pipe layout, design and drafting tools, the inclusion of Hydraflow Hydrographs, Storm Sewers and Express, and the release of Autodesk® Storm and Sanitary Analysis. Other companion products from Autodesk® Labs and SmartDraft® expand these capabilities even further.

Hands-on class offerings in Civil 3D Hydrology and Piping provide design professionals with real-project exposure to these tools in small class settings, providing an opportunity to explore the programs in a training situation facilitating direct exchange with the instructors.

CivilTraining, LLC’s courses are registered Continuing Education classes with the AIA and have received approval in meeting continuing education/professional development requirements for numerous states. Note: Each CivilTraining, LLC course provides relevant continuing education/professional development approval criteria.


AutoCAD Civil 3D Pipe Networks (1 Day)

This class explores the pipe layout and drafting tools in AutoCAD® Civil 3D®, and their application in typical project applications for storm, sanitary and water distribution systems. Civil 3D uses a pipe network model, providing a powerful system for representing the interactions of pipes and structures within a system. The Civil 3D pipe network links to analysis and design tools in the Storm and Sanitary Analysis portion of Civil 3D, providing data to and depicting data from this robust analysis package. Detailed analysis operations in the Storm and Sanitary Analysis product are covered in a separate training class.

This class provides insight into the development and use of prototyped pipe network settings, deployed through template drawings, that make required pipe elements available to all designers. The class then examines in detail the creation and editing of pipe network data, as well as Civil 3D pipe annotation capabilities and the ability to produce design deliverables.

Prerequisites: Thorough familiarity with AutoCAD® is essential. Completion of Civil 3D Essentials and Civil 3D Intermediate, or equivalent experience in Civil 3D, is required.

HEC-RAS River Hydraulics Modeling (2 Days typical)

This training course is designed for both beginning and experienced hydraulic engineers who wish to learn how to use the newest version of HEC-RAS to perform river hydraulic modeling. This training course teaches the fundamentals of HEC-RAS hydraulic modeling. Some prior knowledge and experience with HEC-RAS is helpful, but not required.

The primary focus of this training course is to provide "hands-on" experience to the modeler. Participants will learn by doing, while using the HEC-RAS software on their own computers. The lectures and lab sessions will concentrate on demonstrating how to use the software in "real world" engineering applications.

Note: Participants are required to bring their own laptop computer to the workshop, with Microsoft® Excel® installed.

HEC-RAS Unsteady Flow & Water Quality River Hydraulics Modeling (1 Day)

This training course begins with an introduction to using the unsteady flow component of HEC-RAS. Additional lectures present unsteady flow theory, steps for developing an unsteady flow simulation, and procedures for creating a stable and calibrated model. Guidance is given for techniques on modeling bridges, dams, spillways, and other storage areas in the unsteady flow environment. Introduction to river water quality analysis modeling is provided. Participants will build on the knowledge and experience acquired during the previous HEC-RAS course and/or during practical work experience.
