AutoCAD Architecture

AutoCAD® Architecture is "AutoCAD optimized for architecture." In addition to all the standard AutoCAD tools, it offers a host of features to greatly increase the speed and efficiency of architectural drawings. The software is designed to work from first concept (conceptual design or mass model) through to design development, working drawings, and facility maintenance.

CivilTraining, LLC instruction in AutoCAD Architecture provides an intensive hands-on introduction to the core functionality of AutoCAD Architecture. Courses consist of two separate three-day classes, at the fundamental and advanced levels. Students can elect to take the course as a comprehensive introduction to AutoCAD Architecture by taking the classes consecutively, separated by several weeks in the normal scheduling. Alternatively, students can treat these as two different classes at different levels, taking them at different times as needs develop.

CivilTraining, LLC AutoCAD Architecture classes are always taught in small groups, assuring that students receive the individual attention necessary to master the core concepts in the program. This focus, coupled with the intensity of a hands-on program, leads to greater success in utilizing the software following the training.

The two CivilTraining, LLC AutoCAD Architecture classes are registered Continuing Education classes with the AIA and meet continuing education/professional development requirements for New York and Virginia, and they will most likely meet these requirements in other states accepting AIA registered classes.

AutoCAD Architecture - Fundamentals (3 Days)

The three-day AutoCAD® Architecture Fundamentals focuses on the design development and construction documentation features of AutoCAD Architecture. It provides a basic understanding of placement and basic modification of AEC content.

Topics include:
  • Creating Basic Floor Plans with Walls, Doors, and Windows
  • Placement and Basic Editing of Column or Ceiling Grids, Stairs, Floors and Roofs
  • Adding Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment
  • An Introduction to Project Management (Project Browser and Project Navigator)
  • Creating Details
  • Showing Elevations, Sections, and Perspectives
  • Placement and Basic Editing of Door and Window Tags and Schedules
  • Basic Rendering Concepts

Prerequisites: Students should have a solid background in AutoCAD® before taking this course, since AutoCAD tools and concepts are essential for working with AutoCAD Architecture. In particular, students should be familiar with basic 3D viewing tools (preset views, 3D Orbit, and Visual Styles), layouts, Paper Space/Model Space issues, and external references (Xrefs). A working knowledge of the Ribbon interface is helpful but not essential, as pertinent tools are covered in the course.

Cancellation Policy: A full refund will be provided for cancellation through the close of registration. For cancellation after the close of registration, a penalty of $250.00 will be incurred.

This three-day class provides a better understanding of complexities of the software to allow for customization of AEC content.

Topics include:
  • Understanding and Making Use of the Style Manager
  • Using Advanced Wall Tools
  • Using Advanced Section and Elevation Tools
  • Drawing Management through the Use of Project Browser and Project Navigator
  • Using Spaces and Areas to Develop a Building Design
  • Defining Multi-view Blocks and Creating Custom Content
  • Creating Styles for AEC Objects, Including Walls, Doors, Windows, and Curtain Walls, as well as Annotation Object Styles
  • Customizing Layer Properties
