AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT

Recognizing that AutoCAD® applications vary considerably across different disciplines, CivilTraining, LLC offers AutoCAD training programs taught by AEC professionals which, in turn, helps to move our classes beyond the one-size-fits-all, everyone-draws-gears approach.

Introduction to AutoCAD classes provide hands-on instruction in core AutoCAD, at the fundamental 2D level (AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT®) and as the backbone for the AutoCAD vertical products such as AutoCAD® Architecture, AutoCAD® Civil 3D® and AutoCAD® Map 3D.

Taught in small groups, the classes focus on mastery of the essential concepts for the use of AutoCAD in the 2D drafting and 3D modeling worlds, and in support of the demanding Architectural, Geospatial, Surveying and Engineering applications of the vertical products.

AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT - Essentials (3 Days)

AutoCAD® Essentials covers the essential core topics for working with AutoCAD. This class will cover basic drafting and editing tools that enable the student to create and edit a simple drawing. Additionally, a student will gain knowledge in reusable content and annotation insertion, as well as layout development (needed for plotting sheets) and general plotting. More advanced tools are also introduced throughout the course. Not every command or option is covered, because the intent is to show the most essential tools and concepts, such as:
  • Understanding the AutoCAD Workspace and User Interface
  • Using Basic Drawing, Editing, and Viewing Tools
  • Drawing Precision in AutoCAD
  • Making Changes in Your Drawing
  • Organizing Drawing Objects on Layers
  • Advanced Object Types
  • Getting Information from the Drawing
  • Using Advanced Editing Commands
  • Inserting Reusable Symbols (Blocks)
  • Understanding Model and Paper Space
  • Preparing a Layout to be Plotted and Basic Plotting
  • Adding & Editing Text, Tables, Hatching, Dimensions, and Multileaders

AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT - Beyond the Basics (2 Days)

AutoCAD® Beyond the Basics continues with more sophisticated techniques that extend a student's mastery of the program. For example, users go beyond the basic skill of inserting a block to learn how to create blocks and how to populate them on tool palettes. Additionally, users will be introduced to external references which is a feature not covered in the previous session. The following areas are covered:
  • Using More Advanced Editing and Construction Techniques
  • Creating Local and Global Blocks, Using the Block Editor and Purging
  • Tool Palette Creation and Properties of Tools
  • Setting up Layers, Styles, and Templates
  • Using Advanced Plotting and Publishing Options

AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT - Advanced (2 Days)

AutoCAD® Advanced takes a more in depth look at specific tools that increase productivity. For example, users will learn how to integrate attributes into blocks, as well as learn how to create and use their own templates. Additionally, users will also be given the opportunity to learn about features like the Sheet Set Manager, which is a topic not previously covered in earlier sessions. The following areas are covered:
  • Advanced Text Objects
  • Working with Tables
  • Working with and Creating Dynamic Blocks
  • Inserting, Editing, Defining, and Extracting Attributes
  • Managing Layers
  • Publishing Drawings
  • Additional Layer Tools: Filters, Layer States, Layer Translator
